Brisbane has clear skies in the winter time. It gets cool quickly in the evening with no blanket of cloud to keep the city warm.
The houses are all built to let the warmth out in the summer, so the cold seeps in easily. When the morning comes of course the sun, bright and sub-tropical chases off the pooling winter bite.
You would hardly know it’s winter by the time you step out into the sanguine morning sun. The only cool that remains of the night is buried in the pages of my book.
Left in the coolest spot of the house the cold slipped in and hide when morning came.
I pulled out my book to read a few pages with a morning coffee. For a second or two I can feel the remains of last night’s chill on its pages and then they’re gone. Burned off in Brisbane’s winter sun.
